Community Development Projects

When we plant trees, we plant seeds of peace and hope.🌱

Last October 28, 2023, before the upcoming long weekend, busy holidays, traffic jam caused by the last day of local election campaigns and a 40-minute bangka ride under the scorching heat of the sun, our tireless cooperative - PECCI and its officers led by the Board of Directors and its community arm, the Social and Community Development (SCD) were unstoppable to deliver the seeds of hope to the Barangays of Pamarawan and Caliligawan, two coastal communities under the City of Malolos, Bulacan.

Public Schools District Supervisor Rommel C. Cruz from Region III School Division Office of Malolos City requested our ever-supportive cooperative for a donation of Mangrove Seedlings (Bakawan) for Barangays Pamarawan and Caliligawan, outdoor plants for the school grounds of Pamarawan Elementary and High School, and a conduct of Disaster Risk Seminar for Parents Teachers Association as part of their community and environmental responsibility.

In Director Mike Dawis’ opening remarks, he enunciated to the participants the importance of the 7th Cooperative Principle which is the Concern for Community and the newly recognized and seemingly 8th Cooperative Principle which is Climate Change Awareness and elaborated why PECCI is extending its helping hands to the community. Together with our PECCI Officers, the parents, teachers, and students of Pamarawan National High School, planted Bakawan seedlings in the coastal boundaries surrounding their community that will surely serve as their first line of defense during floods and strong typhoons. The bakawan trees are very good habitat for fishes and shellfishes since fishing is their main source of livelihood. Santan plants were also planted in the school grounds for a more pleasant view of their school. The PTA officers, some teachers and students attended the Disaster & Risk Management Seminar for basic knowledge on disaster preparedness and shortly after the seminar, basic tools needed for disaster preparedness like rainboots, whistle, flashlights and megaphones were distributed to the attendees.

It should always start with us - let us help one another in loving and protecting the nature around us. We should also not rely on our barangay officials for our safety, we should all know how to protect our families and also help in protecting our community. Almost everything start from small things and it is up to us how to nurture these things and make them progressive and be helpful and of use to our community. - Chairperson Ethel Soriano

Ang ating mga tinatanim na tulong ay habambuhay na mamumunga ng pag-asa para sa ating mga komunidad at sa buong bansa! Maraming salamat sa walang sawang suporta mga Ka-PECCI, mabuhay ka! 💚🧡

The world is your stage, make an entrance and exit with style.

A year ago, San Jose Elementary School (SJES) received a total of 316 individual packs of school supplies (notebooks, pencils, ballpens, pad papers, crayons, rulers) and 5 Smart TVs from our advocacy-committed cooperative PECCI. These donations were placed and arranged in the simple stage at the center of an open mini-hall. The stage was set-up and put together by the teachers and students and adorned with a tarpaulin made out of bond papers and the ceiling covered with white cartolina. In the middle of the turn-over ceremony, heavy rain poured which soaked the venue and revealed the true situation of their simple stage – dilapidated roof and ceiling which caused the rain to seep thru the big holes and got the stage wet. The donations were transferred to a safe and dry area of the small mini-hall. The principal was very apologetic about what happened and even joked that the rain spoiled the preparation they did to conceal their very old and cranky stage. The PECCI Board of Directors was moved by this scene and promised to help with the renovation of the school’s stage.

Last Saturday July 29, 2023, PECCI’s community arm Social and Community Development (SCD) and Board of Directors (BOD) went back to San Jose Elementary School to grace the blessing of the newly-renovated stage in their open mini hall. It was indeed a day of celebration and thanksgiving. The program started with the solemn blessing of the newly renovated stage by their community priest, followed by the ribbon cutting led by the PECCI Board’s Chairperson Ethel Soriano, Vice Chairperson Adel Naig, SCD Oversight Director Mike Dawis, and GAD Oversight Director Ferdie Villanueva. A message of gratitude was also delivered by their Barangay Captain, Mr. Danny G. Talisman. Back-to-back-to-back performances from the teachers, students, and not to mention the impromptu singing from our PECCI Officers were showcased in their new stage. As a sign of appreciation of the efforts exerted by the entire school to entertain them, the PECCI BOD and officers gave monetary tokens out of their own pockets to all the pupils who performed which made the kids very happy. A video presentation of the stage’s renovation progress was played by Ms. Edna M. Manzano the school’s Head Teacher who humbly asked for PECCI’s support and made their school’s dream possible and closed her segment with tears of joy and a sincerely grateful heart. Chairperson Ethel Soriano in her closing remarks, urged the pupils to study well and to never stop dreaming because dreams do come true as long they continue to believe in themselves.

The new stage of San Jose Elementary School is not just for the use of their school. Since it is the second biggest well-built stage in their area, nearby schools and barangays have requested to make it a venue for their closing and moving up ceremonies and some community events. PECCI’s helping hands will surely echo not just to the students and teachers of San Jose Elementary School but to the entire population of San Jose, Roxas, Oriental Mindoro.

This is the best day of our lives, as we are the first graduates of SJES to use the new stage.

Technology can become the wings that will allow the educational world to fly farther and faster than ever before.

Along with the non-stop rain, Lumangbayan Elementary School was also showered with blessings last Friday (July 28, 2023). Typhoon Egay was no match to our PECCI officers led by the Board of Directors and its community arm, the Social and Community Development (SCD) who crossed the stubborn and tumultuous seas from Batangas to Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.

Lumangbayan Elementary School, situated in the Municipality San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro, has a total enrollment of 315 students, 10% of which belong to the Mangyan tribe. The school is already back to the face-to-face set-up that started last August 2022. Due to the two-year lockdown and hiatus in face-to-face mode of learning, the teachers realized that despite their full effort of quality teaching there are still learning gaps in many of their students.

Through the humble request of their School Principal III - Ms. Mirafe P. Ibarra-Aparato to our beloved cooperative, PECCI donated 3 units of 32” Smart TVs to support the teachers in delivering more quality education using modern approach of teaching and to make their daily lessons more interactive and innovative learning for their students. The whole school was overjoyed with the heartwarming gifts that PECCI has given them.

PECCI has always been steadfast in its advocacy of helping schools in far-flung communities, especially those which lack in teaching materials and equipment. Just like Dr. Jose Rizal, PECCI believes that “ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan” and the best way to bolster this is to provide aid to schools that need them to be able to give these children a better opportunity in terms of education.

Maraming salamat mga Ka-PECCI! Hangga't tuloy-tuloy ang suporta sa ating kooperatiba, tuloy-tuloy din po tayong makakatulong sa ating mga komunindad. 💚🧡

“There is no distance too far for Big Brother PECCI to help, for helping gives wings to Pusong Pecci!"

The Tabano Omang Livelihood Project Organization, operating in Caliking Atok Benguet, requested PECCI for a coffee roasting machine to help coffee grower members by expanding their Arabica Coffee production. On June 24, 2023, the Coffee machine traveled 8 hours from Manila to Caliking to benefit 161 members with 44 families who are engaging in agriculture such as coffee and livestock production.

PECCI once again fulfilled its commitment to help in the upliftment of lives of members of the community. They expressed their happiness with Kuya PECCI’s gift, and PECCI is just as happy to be able to help.

PECCI is quite positive that thru the donation made, their lives will be much better as they will be able to produce more roasted coffee beans and make them more competitive with other Arabica coffee beans producers. Like a caring kuya, PECCI assures to stand by the Tabano Omang Livelihood Project Organization for any assistance they may need in the future.

To God be all the glory. We are just instruments in touching the lives of others.

PWeDeng - PWeDe!

Last Monday, December 5, 2022, in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and PECCI’s 64th Founding Anniversary, our beloved cooperative went to the Makati City Hall to give gifts to our challenged brothers and sisters from different barangays of Makati as an early Christmas treat. Lead by the PECCI Board of Directors, Social Community Development (SCD), officers from other PECCI committees, and in coordination with Ms. Vivian D. Gabriel from the Makati Cooperative Development Office (MCDO), PECCI distributed Christmas grocery packages and cash donations to the Persons with Disabilities in attendance. Makati City Hall was beaming with the spirit of the holidays and love and appreciation can clearly be seen in the eyes of everyone present.

The program started with a warm welcome remarks from Councilor Joey Villena who is also the Chairperson of the Committee on Cooperatives of the Makati Council. He congratulated PECCI on its 64th anniversary and gave his heartfelt gratitude for sharing its blessings to the Persons with Disabilities of Makati City. The event was also graced by the presence of Ms. May Pacleb of Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) who was also thankful for the early Christmas gifts given. PECCI Chairperson Ethel Soriano delivered a short message wherein she highlighted PECCI's commitment to bring joy and hope to the Persons with Disabilities of Makati as our cooperative's way of helping the said vulnerable sector of our society.

It is also worthwhile to mention the members who availed of the Berry Merry Loan. Through the continuous patronage of PECCI's loan products and services, our cooperative is able to support the programs of the CDA geared at helping and serving the community.

Abilities outweigh disabilities, let us always focus on what we can rather on what we can’t.

Muli, maraming maraming salamat po sa walang patid na pagsuporta sa mga produkto at serbisyo ng ating mahal na kooperatiba. Mabuhay po kayo mga Ka-PECCI! Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon! 💚🧡

More Than Meets the Eye

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Sometimes, to be able to see, you have to close your eyes and open your heart. Only then will you be able to discover what is profoundly important and what really counts. When you open your inner eyes and satisfy your soul, your horizons will widen, and new possibilities will arise. This is the gist of Director Dome Gonzaga’s inspirational speech.

At the height of the pandemic, our blind kuyas and ates, nanays and tatays were affected by the closure of businesses. The therapists cannot do what they do best and entertainment was put to a halt to help curb the spread of the virus. It was most difficult to them specially with those who have families to support.

On November 26, 2022, PECCI went to Antipolo, Rizal to bring hope to the 152 members of the Balikatan Multi-Purpose Cooperative of the Blind, by donating ten (10) massage chairs, ten (10) gallons of alcohol, hundreds of white towels for the blind therapists and two electric guitars for their Rondalla Band and cash donation of P20,000.00.

When they heard about all the donations that PECCI brought for them, they cheered, clapped their hands and wiped tears of joy. Tremendous outpouring of gratitude could be felt as they chanted “Salamat PECCI…Salamat PECCI.” The donations will help them get back on their feet as these will be used to add up to their means of livelihood.

Balikatan MPC GM Evangeline Clerigo has this to say: “On behalf of all the officers, members, workers of the Balikatan Multi-Purpose Cooperative of the Blind, we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for the generous donations that you shared to us. Thank you is not enough, fervent prayers we can give back to all of you, good health and prosperity to your Coop and everyone. God bless you all from the bottom of our hearts. Mabuhay po ang PECCI!”

PECCI Chairperson Ethel Soriano, in her Closing Remarks, gave thanks to the members of the Balikatan MPC because their determination to rise above the ashes despite their disability sends a strong message of HOPE and STRENGTH to all of us. She told them that they will serve as inspiration for all people to never give up even in tumultuous times and in the face of adversity.

Ika nga ni Helen Keller, isang Disability Rights Advocate, “Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”

Mga ka-PECCI, you are all part of this beautiful initiative and we share with you the endless gratitude from the members of the Balikatan MPC for the Blind.

A Saturday Well Spent...

Helping the farmers of Brgy. Cabalantian, Bacolor, Pampanga by donating materials that they will use in building an irrigation system to help them grow their crops and re-vegetate the disturbed soils during times of less than average rainfall.

PECCI believes that by supporting sustainable projects, we will be able to help communities with their livelihood and a means to provide food for their families.

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate. To have these make some difference that you have lived and lived well."

Grandparents' Day - Golden Gays

In celebration of Grandparents' Day, PECCI extended its caring hands to provide assistance to the elderly of the LGBTQ community, known as the Golden Gays. Constituents of this community have no more families to call their own and are temporarily housed in a small, rented lodge in Pasay. They eke out a living by performing in small shows, but the pandemic affected this. They are still trying to raise funds for a new permanent facility.

The Golden Gays is a Philippine non-profit organization that provides support and care facilities for elderly LGBTQ people. It was originally established in 1975 by the late Justo Justo, a Filipino columnist, Pasay City councilor, and LGBTQ activist.

The PECCI Gender and Development (GAD) and the Social Community Development (SCD) joined forces to bring joy to the Golden Gays. After all, PECCI is a firm believer in the recognition and acceptance of all genders in our society.

The Community is very appreciative of the goods provided by our PECCI, which consisted of canned goods, rice, sanitation and health products, vitamins, and some blankets.

This was all made possible by your patronage and support of PECCI. Look at their smiles and feel the joy of being able to help the elderly in this sector of our society. We made 19 "Lolas" very happy on Sept 24, 2022.

Please continue to support our products and services, especially the "BERRY MERRY LOAN" Naka Loan kana, naka tulong ka pa!

Maraming salamat mga ka-PECCI.

Lakbay Aral

The unpredictable weather did not stop PECCI from accomplishing 3 projects over the weekend as a testament to its adherence to the principles of cooperativism such as (1) Concern for the Community, (2) Cooperation among Cooperatives, and (3) Commitment to Education, Training, and Information.

1. On August 26 (Friday), PECCI successfully hosted the delegation from GenSan Teachers and Employees MPC on its Lakbay Aral and shared best practices, ideas, and benchmarking as they look up to PECCI as a successful model that they want to emulate in leading their cooperative.

2. Gender and Development ‘s two (2) well-attended Webinars: (1) Safe Space Act and Anti Sexual Harassment Webinar (2) the Magna Carta for Women in celebration of the 13th anniversary of RA 9710

3. PECCI’s Social and Community Development (SCD TWG) went to Roxas, Mindoro Oriental which is an almost 8 hours land-sea-land travel to deliver school supplies and TVs which can be used as teaching tools to 150 students of San Jose Elementary School and the EM Fabella Elementary School which is a public school that caters to the Mangyan tribe of Mindoro and also conducted an impactful Disaster Risk Reduction Seminar to officials, townsfold of 2 barangays in San Jose and also the Mangyan tribe.

More stories will be shared for more details on how we put into heart our service to the community and nation-building.

Let there be light!

For a better-lit, brighter and safer environment for the residents of Barangay Entablado especially during night time, their Barangay officials requested the help of our humble cooperative.

Our PECCI Social and Community Development illuminated the streets of Barangay Entablado. This time around, solar-powered street lights and materials were provided on July 30, 2022. The first batch of street lights given on June, 2019 were electricity powered streetlights.

This project, both the electricity and the solar powered lights, addresses the social concern on public safety and security of the whole Barangay Entablado.

The residents of the area are very grateful to our PECCI, for this worthy project will surely help the community not only be safer but will make the area look like a real entablado (stage).

"Let the light that shines above
Become the light that shines in us
There's no darkness in Your way
So have Your way
Lord have Your way"

Maraming maraming salamat sa walang tigil na suporta mga Ka-PECCI! 💚🧡

Health and Safety is always the Top Priority!

On July 2, 2022, our PECCI Social Community and Development extended our cooperative's helping hand under SCD's pillars - Health and Sanitation and Support to Vulnerable Sector of the Society, in this particular case, our school children of Pineda-Gutierrez Elementary School, Tabun, Angeles City, Pampanga.

To prepare the school for a better, safer and more conducive face to face learning environment, our beloved PECCI donated hand sanitizing materials, medical devices/equipment and some informational materials.

In addition to their protection and safety, the school's side gate was fortified, pathways were cleared and cemented, a guardhouse was built, and a pick-up and drop-off area was provided for our dear students.

Your continuous support to our cooperative is not limited to its members but ripples to those who are in need in our society. You are instruments in nation building.

Maraming salamat po sa inyong patuloy na suporta mga Ka-PECCI! 💚🧡

Plant a Tree Save the Earth 🌳

One of the present crises our planet earth is facing now is environmental collapse and forest denudation. This is much evident with the series of calamities that we encounter these days. We all know that trees give us oxygen, counters pollution, provides a better quality of air, reduces heat, helps in climate change, fertilizes our soil, provides us with food and shelter. PECCI supports environmental projects that will help build a better and safer planet to live in.

On the same day, May 28, 2002, that PECCI donated for the education of the kids of Isla Namayan, PECCI officers also planted the 500 bakawan trees PECCI donated to jumpstart a greener community, our way of helping preserve and protect lives by diminishing chances of soil erosion and extreme flooding at Isla Namayan.

PECCI chose to be pro-active in saving our environment and give hope for a healthier and safer Philippines. Let us choose life, let us plant more trees!

In a single day, PECCI was able to contribute to two of its SCD pillars: Education, Training for Non-Members and Environmental Conservation and Protection.

Mabuhay mga Ka-PECCI. Kaisa kayo lahat sa proyektong ito! ❤️

PECCI SCD’s Buena Mano

PECCI's first social development project for 2022 aims to address the challenges of teachers, parents and students of City of Malolos Integrated School in Catmon.

Although there are no face-to-face activities in school, the teachers and the parents need to come to the school for the modules for the children. When it rains, the distribution of modules are cancelled or postponed because of flooding in the school premises. This definitely affects the education of the students.

To address this, a ground refilling needs to be done along the path to the module distribution rooms.

And because *PECCI cares,* we decided to help. On Jan 29, 2022, PECCI, led by Chairperson SERGS NAVARRA, Vice-Chairperson ETHEL SORIANO, Dirs. ADELLE NAIG, MIKE DAWIS and ROBERT AREVALO, and the Social Community Development (SCD) team turned over P100,000 to fund the project. The elevated pathway which is expected to be completed in March 2022, will allow teachers, parents and learners (if face-to-face classes are permitted)to go safely to other building/rooms.

"Maraming salamat PECCI!" - a heartfelt appreciation from CMIS-Catmon’s Teachers and its PTA officers.

Ito ang PECCI, always there to help, always caring. ❤

"Pag walang forest ang lupa ay nae-erode ,ang air ay napo-polute ,ang temperature ay umiinit". July 5, 2019, PECCI participated in a Tree Planting Activity organized by the Cooperative Development Council of Makati.

PECCI representatives planted about 40 Malapapaya Trees in the La Mesa Nature Reserve. We do this now but the benefits will go to our next generations.

PECCI PUP Scholarship Program

The night the MOA between PECCI and PUP was signed was full of emotions. Gratitude, excitement, enthusiasm, and energy filled the PECCI office as the 14 scholars of the PECCI Scholarship Program were named. There were tears shed, but this time they were tears of joy.

The scholars will be given a stipend of P10K per semester or P2K per month from their 2nd year until they graduate. As the budget for the program can only accommodate 10 grants, 4 kind-hearted private individuals from the PECCI family volunteered to sponsor more bringing the total grantees to 14. We interviewed a total of 31 candidates. This means that 17 more students are waiting for sponsors.

Want to share the joy? Let us know.
